Many VoIP systems will activate when you highlight (and sometimes copy) a number. It is usually a drop down like you see in many Microsoft applications. Copy and paste works fairly easy. Sure it is a band aid what you are asking, but probably easier and quicker implemented then an api for the mass variety of VoIP programs out there.

Robert Blaes Does it work both ways; from Protractor to phone and phone to Protractor using copy and paste?

Kim Doble - In the systems we have tried, yes it does. Nextiva has a 3 key keyboard shortcut that will dial the highlighted number. We are able to copy and paste from any VoIP program we have used/looked at or to any VoIP program we have used or looked at. I like the drop down feature to dial best, but the keyboard short cut is a good Plan B and the copy and paste is a good Plan C
