Just reading though these comments, they are the same comments I have been literally beating into my sales rep, and posted my own fixes for. 1 year and still nothing about working towards more schedule imporvements, I even had my rep come for 2 days at our shop to show her why its so important that the schedule be the #1 priority

Darren Williams: amazing! Looking forward to trying it out Monday!

Darren Williams: This new feature has completely slowed down the schedule, is anyone else having an issue?

Darren Williams: Could a future update be to assign the technician on the appointment just by dragging to his column? Also, for it to allow me to set a technician to the appointment while it stays in scheduled work, and not default to inspection in progress. The schedule upgrade so far has great potential... thanks
Darren Williams
Matthew: The first we plan to add. The second would need to be a choice as many shops like the way the statuses work now. Can you please create a new feature request here requesting that separately?

It's in progress as part of another schedule enhancement request

Darren Williams ALL these requests for a better scheduler and Protractor never addresses it.. stop fixing (and breaking) the silly items and fix the most important part of shop management: THE SCHEDULER!
go try out just about any other DMS software out there and make yours like theirs.. PLEASE!!! we want TECHNICIAN COLUMNS in the scheduler,( like every single other poster here!) throw away the prioritization junk. we book 3 weeks out all year long, we need a proper scheduler before we find one elsewhere.

Jeremy Bons: Hi Jeremy, this post was marked as complete back in July 2023, which means we added technician columns to the scheduler as requested.
Please see the update notes or contact support if you can't see the functionality:

One of the additional items I would like to see is a drop off time and an appointment time/scheduled work time. That would alleviate some of the dragging and dropping of WO in the scheduler. This would help with planning our service advisors in the scheduler and for our parking lot management during tire season.

Darren Williams: would if be possible to get feedback on what is being proposed on the Protractor side of things for scheduler improvements? Individual Ttechnician columns with hours of time listed? Condense/expand alotted time for a job to make it more fluid or preset duration based on WO hours like it is now? Color coding for vehicles not dropped off yet, compared to vehicles that are actually here? Hoping the scheduler is built in a way that it's beneficial for shops that like to determine their schedule 1, 2, or 3+ days out and are looking to give their customers a specific ETA of when their vehicle will be worked on, not just a "first in, first out" type of setup. Also hoping it's built geared towards shops that attempt to do same day service, and avoid a ton of carry overs. If you build it geared towards shops with high flow/high volume and specific time scheduling, then it will work for shops with "first in/first out" and constant carry over scheduling. But if you build it for the latter, it won't work for the shops looking for more specific time allotments/scheduling. I still miss RO Writer scheduler. Using Google now which is double entries from Protractor to Google copying information over.

Adam Bendzick: this was the feature requested: The ability in the scheduler screen to drag and drop into technician columns. To help plan the technicians day better
Dev team is also researching if the following can be implemented at the same time, based on feature requests approved prior to Canny. Nothing guaranteed or confirmed yet:
Add the ability to assign service advisor directly to an appointment
Add the option to display the schedule with columns for each technician
Have flags display the appropriate flag symbol instead of just a color swatch
Print the schedule
Mark shop schedule exceptions directly from schedule
Allow appointments to have '0' hour duration
Allow appointments to be resized to take up more space on schedule without affecting duration

This seems to be a merge of the scheduler screen and the prioritization screen. You can already move the RO's in order on the Prioritization screen. I would think you revise that screen and leave the scheduler. I don't know who I will be assigning RO's to that are over a day out. It depends on who is available. That is what the prioritization screen is for?
I would like a To Do or Reminder screen so we can list items we need to To Do or remember that are NOT RO's.

Jeff Zerbe: We book well over a week in advance and prioritization screen does not allow you to plan a technician day in advance only the current day. If you have used any other shop management program the above listed features are the same that all others have.

Merged in a post:
More organization and control of scheduler
Integra Tire #2
The scheduler should be organized by hours in the day and technician. I should be able to view my schedule and see exactly what time I have open or booked under each technician so that I can provide my customer with a specific appointment time. The scheduler view does not show the technician and the prioritization screen does not show the hours in the day. I have attached a protractor view and an example of Duoserve's ScheduFlow. In Duoserve I can drag and move the appointments if I need to make adjustments in my day and color code them however I would like (ie: on site, customer waiting, work complete). It would be nice if Protractor could do something similar to Duoserve.

Yes some serious work needs to be dedicated to the scheduler. In addition to dragging and dropping jobs. Which kind of works in the technician view of Prioritization (you need a great deal of patience to use it). I would like to "not" see technicians that are scheduled for a "Day Off".
I would also like to be able to build some type of competency capacity into the scheduler. I might have 40 hours of capacity showing in the scheduler, but it is very difficult to assess if it is 40 hours of tires and oil changes or 40 hours of mechanical. Yes we use colors in the scheduler and the flags to hack this, but because I can't readily see who is on or off each day at a glance, especially when booking future work a week out or so, I don't know if I have the right guy for the job that day unless I walk over and look at the scheduler we create in Excel...
We also operate 6 days a week, so our schedule is fluid from week to week depending on which 2 technicians work on any given Saturday.
I think by the level of voting, the scheduler needs some serious attention.
