Integrating with a single provider probably wouldn't hit the mark for the majority of users since there is quite a variety. If there was an open source third party that integrated with a variety, like a single sign on solution does for authentication, that would make it better for more people.

Darren Williams: If you are interested in pursuing an integration I suggest https://callerid.com/ as a starting point. This is the company that Bolt-On's Pro Call program integrates with. Their hardware integrates universally with VOIP based and copper land line type systems. It could work with 3CX, FreePBX, and other on premise PBX systems. There are a surprising number of shops still using conventional copper land line type connections and this would provide an opportunity that works either way.
The desired integration would create a pop up on the Protractor session that allowed immediate access to service history and scheduling for the client who is calling, or to the current work order(s) for the client.

Darren Williams: You just need to enable a TEL hyperlink. Then it would integrate with every phone system out there. That would be the easiest way to do it.

I would add FreePBX if you are looking at on-prem phone servers to integrate with.
